    Job Description:

    This recruitment will be used to fill 300 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) dining student workers for Dining Services at Oregon State University (OSU).

    Join the University Housing and Dining Services in Corvallis! We are hiring to fill student food service positions for dining centers, catering, coffee shops, MU restaurants, and store locations across campus. 
     

    Note that some of these locations are only Monday - Friday and some will offer weekend shifts. Most positions typically have a consistent weekly schedule each term.
     

    Applications will go to dining center hiring managers, when there are no other positions available.

    The Undergraduate Student Food and Retail Service Worker perform a variety of work associated with the provision of dining, food, and retail services.

    Dining Position Duties:

    • Learn to provide exceptional, attentive customer service by answering questions regarding menu items, ingredients, allergens, and prices. 

    • Learn to cook and prepare menu items using raw products and meats as well as most common food allergens, including gluten. 

    • Appropriately portion, assemble and serve food and beverage items to order, including special diet items. 

    • Work collaboratively with teammates in a fast-paced environment and support daily operations by adapting to changing priorities.

    • Stock and rotate products, ingredients and supplies.

    • Operate point-of-sale systems ensuring 100% accuracy in sales information, and in cash, OSU ID, and credit card transactions.

    • Maintain cleanliness of work area, serving area, and seating areas. Assist in dish washing, equipment sanitation, and frequent cleaning tasks to maintain a food safe work environment. 

    Catering Position Duties: (plus above)

    • Gathers equipment, food, and beverage for a catering event, then delivers to the specified location on or off-campus, meeting event deadlines, while ensuring food quality and safety.

    • Events take place 7 days a week and can require early or late work shifts. Schedule changes weekly.

    • Driving is an essential part of the job. Training provided to drive a box truck.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

    • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

    • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

      • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

      • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

      • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

      • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

      • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


    *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment and must always maintain a food handler’s card while employed with UHDS.

    • Must be able to understand both written and verbal instruction, to ensure employee and guest safety

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Working Conditions/Schedule:

    • Students are expected to work 10 to 20/24 hours per week. Available shifts will vary. Schedule determined by hiring unit needs and student availability.
    • Good attendance is crucial for stability and day to day business needs.
    • Must follow schedule, be on time, in uniform, when shift begins.
    • Will require work in areas that prepare and handle raw meat, as well as common food allergens, including gluten.
    • Will require walking, standing, and bending for extended periods and may require maneuvering heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
    • Uniform — closed toe, slip resistant shoes and long black pants are typically required and must be provided by employee.
    • Start at $15.90 per hour.
