Hybrid Position / Open-ended contract position
Pay Rate: approximately $50.00 hour
Job Scope of the Dimensional Engineer: A Dimensional Engineer for Automotive Interiors ensures that interior cabin components such as instrument panels, door trims, consoles, and headliners meet precise fit, finish, craftsmanship, and geometric tolerances from the prototype phase through full-scale production.
Core Responsibilities of the Dimensional Engineer:- Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis : Run mathematical tolerance models on plastic injection molded parts, sub-assemblies, and interfaces
- Fit and Finish (Craftsmanship) : Ensure tight gap and flush tolerances, tactile alignment, and zero-squeak/ratter interfaces across adjacent cabin parts
- Metrology and Data Analysis : Analyze scan data, CMM reports, and coordinate measurements from checking fixtures, Meisterbock, or laser scanners
- Root Cause Problem Solving : Identify root cause for warp, shrinkage, or misaligned assembly tooling when interior parts fail to sit correctly
- Supplier & Tooling Collaboration : Work with suppliers and toolmakers to modify injection mold or assembly jigs
Requirements and Qualifications for the Dimensional Engineer:- Education : Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred, will consider experience in leu of degree
- GD&T Experience : Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Software Skills : Proficiency in CAD (NX and/or CATIA) and 3D inspection software (PolyWorks, Geomagic, Verisurf)
- Manufacturing Knowledge : Familiarity with plastic injection molding, forming, soft-trim manufacturing, and sequence-of-assembly processes
