The Indiana University (IU) Institute for Advanced Study (IUIAS) reaches across the disciplines and schools of IU Bloomington to nurture innovative and creative ideas through research development and to promote collaborative intellectual exchange. IUIAS hosts radically interdisciplinary working groups, consultations on digital methodologies, grant and fellowship application workshops, repository research seminars, and residencies by prestigious visitors.

Job Summary

IUIAS seeks a Program Management Specialist to lead a Digital Research Initiative housed at the institute. Working collaboratively with the IAS Team, the position leads support services, research, and scholarly development.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Consults with center affiliates to assist in research planning and skills building for projects using a wide variety of digital methodologies and toolsets, such as quantitative text analysis, network analysis, Geographic Information System (GIS), web scraping, digital art and design, and qualitative analytic software.
• Supports affiliate research by maintaining and expanding awareness of a breadth of resources and experts at IU in various fields, as well as asynchronous tutorial materials.
• Maintains and expands the impact of the Institutes work through relationships with IU faculty, centers, departments, and programs.
• Tracks program impact and evaluates this data to improve the reach and scope of the Initiatives activities and ensure affiliate needs are being met.

General Responsibilities

• Coordinates and manages day-to-day operations of research programs or projects; develops timelines, tracks milestones, and ensures deliverables are completed.
• Ensures adherence to institutional, sponsor, and regulatory requirements; coordinates preparation and maintenance of compliance documentation (e.g., IRB, protocols).
• Tracks budgets, expenditures, and resource use; supports financial reporting and identifies variances or issues requiring attention.
• Serves as a liaison between investigators, staff, and external partners; facilitates communication and alignment across project teams.
• Collects and analyzes program data, monitors progress and outcomes, and prepares reports for leadership, sponsors, and stakeholders.
• Identifies operational challenges, recommends solutions, and implements process improvements; resolves moderately complex issues using professional judgment.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelors degree.

Preferred

• Masters degree with a focus in technology studies, digital scholarship, digital humanities, or an related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years in related field.

Preferred

• Technical expertise in digital research environments.
• Experience with aspects of and approaches to digital scholarship including computational text analysis, network analysis, GIS, data management, web development.
• Experience translating specialized knowledge and facilitating effective communication across interdisciplinary research teams.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$58,000.00 - $62,000.00 on an annualized basis.
