Position Description

Seneca Resources is seeking an experienced Technical Solutions Architect / Senior Application Architect to support a high-impact Digital Banking technology team. This role is ideal for an experienced software engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, evaluating application architecture, and influencing long-term technology strategy without serving as a traditional software developer.

You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, and Security teams to improve application quality, reduce technical debt, and guide the development of scalable, secure, resilient, and cloud-ready enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze enterprise applications, source code, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems to identify technical improvements.

  • Evaluate software architecture and recommend scalable, maintainable, and resilient design solutions.

  • Partner with engineering teams to review solution designs and implementation strategies.

  • Identify, assess, and prioritize technical debt remediation initiatives.

  • Promote secure software development practices throughout the application lifecycle.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns to support modernization efforts.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish engineering standards, reusable design patterns, and technical best practices.

  • Support cloud transformation initiatives and application modernization programs.

  • Develop technical documentation, architecture guidance, implementation playbooks, and knowledge-sharing resources.

  • Proactively identify technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies before production deployment.

  • Contribute to long-term technology strategy by improving software quality, performance, reliability, and sustainability.

Required Skills/Education

  • 5-10 years of experience in Software Engineering, Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, or Technical Design.

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and modern application architecture.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and understand application source code (Java experience strongly preferred).

  • Experience designing and supporting APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.

  • Strong knowledge of scalability, resiliency, performance optimization, and maintainable software design.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps methodologies, and Agile software delivery.

  • Proven ability to identify technical risks and recommend architectural improvements.

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Security Experience

Candidates should have experience applying secure software development practices, including:

  • Secure Coding Principles

  • Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC)

  • API Security

  • Application Security

  • Authentication & Authorization

  • Encryption & Secrets Management

  • Penetration Test Remediation

  • Vulnerability Assessment & Remediation

  • Threat Modeling

  • Security-by-Design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Banking, Financial Services, or FinTech environments.

  • Familiarity with Digital Banking platforms.

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.

  • Knowledge of Event-Driven Architecture and Enterprise Integration patterns.

  • Experience with Application Modernization initiatives.

  • Knowledge of Architecture Governance and Technical Debt Management.

  • Experience working within enterprise-scale Agile development organizations.
