    The Role and Why It's Important

    Our Dietitian Interns support the Health and Wellness team in delivering accurate, engaging nutrition information to customers and communities through store materials, media, and events. In this role, you'll research health topics, assist with store projects, coordinate vendor promotions, and help bring Hy-Vee's health and wellness mission to life.

    What You'll Do

    No two days are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

    • Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive one

    • Research health topics for use in store materials, newspaper articles, health tips, intercom messages, and the Hy-Vee website

    • Create media pitches from health topics and articles

    • Update product nutrient lists such as low sodium food lists

    • Write intercom announcements and assist with nutrition projects for food service departments

    • Plan end cap promotions for new stores and help maintain dietitian schedules on the website

    • Help create PowerPoint presentations for area meetings

    • Work with vendors and coordinate promotions with dietitians and Health Markets

    • Participate in store projects including new store openings and existing store remodels

    • Keep current on nutrition topics and customer trends

    • Obtain HIPAA certification and maintain confidentiality of customers' private medical information

    • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call

    • Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned

    • Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines

    • Report to work when scheduled and on time

    Your Skills

    • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions across a variety of situations

    • Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages accurately

    • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; file and post materials; and guide people with clear direction

    • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and team members in a friendly, professional manner

    • Maintain a high level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient information

    Reporting Relationships

    Accountable and Reports to: Vice President of Center Store; Assistant Vice President of Health and Wellness; Health and Wellness Supervisors

    Education and Experience

    • Currently enrolled in a Dietetic curriculum in college required

    • Six months of similar or related work experience preferred

    Physical Requirements

    • Physical activity is incidental to the core duties of the role

    • Occasionally walk the floor or facility to observe operations, staff, or product

    • Where applicable to the role: ability to occasionally handle product for demonstration purposes

    • No regular lifting, carrying, or physical exertion required

    Working Environment

    This role is performed in a combination of office and retail store settings. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
