Develops student-centered menus that meet federal, state, and local nutrition standards while supporting departmental fiscal goals. Oversees nutritional analysis of menus, recipes, and special diet accommodations in collaboration with school nurses and health providers. Maintains expertise in child nutrition regulations and provides technical guidance to the menu planning and operations teams.
Essential Functions
- Implements MSDE and USDA-compliant menus in collaboration with the Manager of Menu Planning & Procurement.
- Leads recipe development, standardization, and nutrient analysis using district menu management software.
- Plans and updates breakfast, lunch, supper, and snack menus to ensure compliance across all meal programs.
- Conducts federally required nutrient analyses of planned and served menus.
- Maintains product data in ordering software and supports weekly ordering for cafeterias.
- Assists in researching, evaluating, and recommending new food products, menus, and school meal program options.
- Works with the Menu Planning & Procurement Manager to communicate menu guidance to cafeterias and conducts school visits to assess food quality, preparation, and customer acceptance.
- Develops and implements individualized diet plans for students with documented dietary restrictions in collaboration with families, healthcare providers, school nurses, and school-based staff.
- Completes required annual USDA training hours.
- Maintains accurate records of all special dietary accommodations and related communications.
- Conducts school visits to assess implementation of diet accommodations, evaluate service quality, and support cafeteria managers in providing safe alternative menu options.
- Supports policy development related to special diets, menu standards, and student wellness.
- Precepts dietetic interns and collaborates with internal teams and school-based staff to advance program goals.
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains audit documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and readiness for internal and external audits.
- Serves as a nutrition and wellness subject-matter expert and represents the department in meetings, presentations, and wellness initiatives.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.

Minimum Salary 91707.00
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education or equivalent relevant professional experience required.
- Hold or acquire Maryland Registered Dietitian (RD) or RD eligible and registered within 6 months of employment.
- At least three years of relevant full-time professional experience.
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Skill in researching, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($91,707- $109,171).
