Position Overview
Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced Dining Services Shift Supervisor to oversee daily food service operations within a retirement community in Tulsa. This position provides hands-on leadership to kitchen and dining employees while ensuring meals are prepared and served on schedule and that sanitation, food safety, and customer service standards are consistently maintained.
The ideal candidate has previous food service leadership experience, understands high-volume or quantity food production, and is comfortable supervising employees in a fast-paced kitchen and dining environment. This role requires open and close availability within the 7:00 AM7:00 PM operating schedule.
Required Experience & Skills
Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a food service environment
Experience with quantity food production, kitchen operations, or food service management
Knowledge of sanitation and food safety requirements
Strong customer service and team leadership skills
Ability to coordinate employees and delegate responsibilities effectively
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to multitask and make timely decisions during busy meal periods
Ability to remain professional and effective under pressure
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Must successfully pass required background screening
Open and close availability required
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise kitchen and dining services employees during assigned shifts
Provide clear direction and daily work assignments to staff
Ensure employees are present, properly uniformed, and following department standards
Monitor food preparation and meal service throughout the shift
Ensure meals are prepared and served according to established schedules
Coordinate workflow between kitchen and dining personnel
Monitor staffing levels and identify potential coverage issues
Communicate staffing concerns to Dining Services management
Help maintain efficient operations during busy meal-service periods
Coordinate catering, special meals, and dining events
Ensure special events are properly staffed and organized
Maintain professional communication with employees, residents, guests, and management
Perform additional Dining Services responsibilities as assigned
Staff Supervision & Leadership
Provide day-to-day supervision of food service employees
Assist with new employee orientation and training
Coach employees on service, sanitation, and department expectations
Help maintain accountability and consistent performance
Delegate responsibilities according to operational needs
Provide performance support and feedback to employees
Address initial employee disciplinary matters in the absence of the Dining Services Manager
Communicate employee concerns and performance issues to management
Encourage teamwork and professional communication throughout the department
Food Service & Resident Experience
Monitor meal preparation and service for timeliness and quality
Help ensure residents receive professional and courteous service
Maintain an organized and customer-focused dining environment
Address immediate service concerns when they arise
Coordinate with kitchen and dining staff to maintain smooth meal service
Support special meals, catering functions, and resident events
Promote a positive dining experience for residents and guests
Sanitation & Food Safety Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness throughout kitchen and dining areas
Conduct sanitation checks during assigned shifts
Ensure employees follow established food safety procedures
Monitor compliance with applicable health and sanitation requirements
Ensure proper cleaning procedures are followed
Identify and communicate potential sanitation or safety concerns
Report equipment maintenance problems to management
Reinforce safe operation of food service equipment
Maintain strict adherence to workplace and food safety standards
Administrative Responsibilities
Review employee schedules and identify coverage needs
Communicate scheduling concerns to management
Complete assigned clerical and administrative tasks
Maintain clear shift communication with management and other supervisors
Document operational or employee concerns as required
Assist with coordinating staffing for special events and catering functions
Preferred Qualifications
Retirement community or senior living food service experience
Healthcare dining experience
Hospitality or institutional food service experience
Previous Dining Services Supervisor experience
Commercial kitchen leadership experience
Quantity food production experience
Employee scheduling experience
Catering and special-event coordination experience
Customer service leadership experience
Basic clerical and administrative skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk frequently throughout the shift
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull food service supplies and equipment
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive physical activity
Ability to safely work around commercial kitchen equipment
Comfortable working in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments
Ability to remain active throughout busy meal-service periods
Work Environment
Retirement community commercial kitchen and dining environment
Regular interaction with residents, guests, kitchen employees, dining staff, supervisors, and management
Exposure to commercial cooking equipment, cleaning chemicals, heat, cold, and busy meal-service periods
Combination of hands-on supervision, customer service, sanitation monitoring, and administrative responsibilities
Strict adherence to sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety procedures required
