Description

Burns Truck & Trailer Services is looking for an entry-level Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Ripon, CA.

This is a full-time position with opportunities for hands-on training and professional growth. The Level 1 Diesel Mechanic will work alongside experienced technicians to develop the skills needed to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair medium- and heavy-duty trucks and trailers.

Our technicians help ensure customer equipment remains safe, compliant, reliable, and road-ready.

Responsibilities and Skills

  • Assist with DOT inspections and required certification paperwork
  • Perform preventative maintenance services
  • Accurately document labor, repairs, findings, and recommendations
  • Repair and service air and hydraulic brake systems
  • Perform wheel alignments and tire-related repairs
  • Repair wheel seals and brake chambers
  • Adjust and replace clutch components
  • Diagnose and repair suspension systems, including leaf springs, airbags, shocks, and torque arms
  • Repair steering components, including kingpins, drag links, tie-rod ends, and steering boxes
  • Assist with driveline repairs, including clutches, transmissions, U-joints, drivelines, differentials, and fifth wheels
  • Troubleshoot electrical and charging systems
  • Assist with the diagnosis, removal, and replacement of diesel engine components
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
  • Follow company policies, safety procedures, and manufacturer specifications

Experience with Detroit, Cummins, Volvo, PACCAR, Ford, or similar diesel engines is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Interest in diesel and heavy-duty truck repair
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read repair manuals and schematics
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to safely lift heavy parts and work in a physical shop environment
  • Dependable, motivated, and willing to learn
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team

Preferred Experience

  • Certificate of Completion from a trade school
  • At least one year of mechanical
  • Previous diesel, truck, trailer, fleet, or equipment repair experience
