    Job Summary:

    The DIALYSIS FACILITY SECRETARY is responsible for all front desk clerk's clerical/medical duties concerned with the daily operation of the Dialysis Clinic, as well as all other relevant duties and those assigned by the Unit Manager.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

    Obtains permits insurance and billing information, and other statistical data necessary for billing/Network records

    Completes all Network monthly and annual statistic reports

    Collects and maintains all statistic records for CQI reports and billing

    Maintenance of patient charts and chart audits

    Monitors and orders approved office supplies

    Data entry of lab work monthly

    Answers telephones providing appropriate information to callers or routes the call to the appropriate individual; directs clinical calls in accordance with facility policy; places outgoing calls

    Reviews and routes incoming correspondence; prepares outgoing correspondence

    Greets incoming patients/visitors; ascertains nature of business and assists patients/visitors as appropriate

    Operates and troubleshoots office equipment, including fax, copier, typewriter, computer and printer

    Maintains the confidentiality of all Practice information regarding patients, coworkers and physicians

    Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services/Unit Manager.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Must be computer literate. Proficient in various computer software applications involving word processing and spreadsheet analysis

    Must possess ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly and concisely

    Must exhibit a high degree of accuracy and detail in work involving patient statistics, patient's records and billing

    Must possess ability to meet physical demands of the position. These include, but are not limited to, constant sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

    Ability to excel in stressful, fast-paced work environment subject to frequent interruptions and hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, staff, etc. Continuously serves as a mediator between patients , family members and Practice staff.

    Education, Certification and Experience Required:

    High school diploma or GED

    1 year experience in an administrative or equivalent position, preferred not required.

    Physical and Environmental Conditions:

    The DIALYSIS FACILITY SECRETARY must expect to be exposed to the possibility of injury when using or lifting equipment and supplies, infection from undiagnosed contagious patients, disagreeable odors, and exposure to blood borne pathogens. The Hemodialysis Nurse is expected to exercise 'universal precautions' in the performance of all duties as this position may be subject to exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B and C viruses.
