Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED plus additional course work (equivalent to up to 1 year at a Community College or equivalent resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge and abilities).

Experience:

  • 1-2 years technical experience in construction trades or permitting environment is desired.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

The City of Peoria's Development and Engineering Department is excited to announce an excellent opportunity for a Development Technician I. This position plays a key role in supporting the City's development process by providing technical assistance to citizens, construction industry professionals, and City staff. The Development Technician I will engage in extensive public interaction, assisting with building, engineering, and fire development services, including permitting and fee-related inquiries.

Key responsibilities include accepting and reviewing plans, issuing permits, explaining City processes and procedures, responding to questions and concerns, and tracking permit applications through to completion. The role also involves monitoring the permit process to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support departmental operations.

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Be results-oriented and a self-starter.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers and have relationship-building skills.
  • Have experience using a Permit Tracking System.
  • Be able to multi-task.
  • Have experience with cash handling/payment processing.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have experience in a municipal or government setting.
