The Opportunity
- Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment
- Take parts from raw material through finished form, including CAM programming, setup, machining, and inspection
- Use CAM software such as Siemens NX, Mastercam, or similar to program parts of varying complexity
- Select and set up cutting tools, workholding, and machining strategies based on part geometry and material
- Operate manual machining equipment such as knee mills, engine lathes, drill presses, saws, and surface grinders when required
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and height gauges
- Interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and GD&T to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality standards
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and machine shop personnel to support development builds and hardware integration
- Identify manufacturing bottlenecks, recurring issues, and process improvements to improve shop efficiency
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and monitor equipment for maintenance or safety issues
- Support a high-mix machine shop environment focused on producing high-quality parts faster and more efficiently than external vendors
Compensation: $43-$53/hour.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a CNC machinist in a production or development machine shop
- Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills and lathes
- Experience with CAM software such as Siemens NX, Mastercam, or similar
- Experience operating manual machining equipment including knee mills, manual lathes, drill presses, and surface grinders
Technical Skills
- Ability to interpret dimensioned mechanical drawings and GD&T
- Experience selecting tooling, cutting strategies, and workholding
- Ability to calculate feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters
- Familiarity machining a variety of metals and alloys
- Proficiency with inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and height gauges
- Experience inspecting threads and precision features
Operations & Collaboration
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering and shop teams
- Ability to identify process improvements and manufacturing bottlenecks
- Comfortable using Excel, Word, and email for documentation and communication
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 40+ lbs
- Ability to stand, reach, kneel, and work around machining equipment as required
Desired / Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience in high-mix or prototype machine shop environments
- Experience with fabrication processes such as welding, sheet metal, waterjet cutting, assembly, or finishing
- Experience with multi-axis machining, palletized HMC/VMC machines, laser cutting, or EDM
- Experience using ProtoTRAK systems
- Lean manufacturing certifications
- Background in engineering or mechanical design disciplines
