    DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE


    Purpose of job: The Development Associate provides administrative and operational support for the Legal Aid Society’s fundraising and communications efforts. Primary responsibilities include donor gift processing, donor database management, acknowledgement and stewardship activities, online donation management, cash receipt processing, and general support for development initiatives. The Development Associate also assists with grant administration, data entry, and other projects that support the organization’s mission and fundraising goals. Additionally, this position will provide support to staff attorneys and paralegals in limited execution of administrative duties in the provision of legal services.

    Work Environment: Work is performed in the office setting, in the courts, and in the community.

    This is a full time salaried exempt position and reports to the Development Director and Communications or other designated supervisor.

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Process charitable contributions, including gift entry, cash receipts, pledge payments, and online donations in a timely and accurate manner.
    2. Prepare and distribute donor acknowledgement letters and other stewardship communications.
    3. Maintain accurate donor records and constituent information in Raiser's Edge, including data entry, updates, reporting, and database maintenance.
    4. Reconcile donation records and assist with development-related financial tracking and reporting.
    5. Monitor and manage online donation platforms and assist donors with online giving inquiries as needed.
    6. Provide administrative support to the Director of Development and Communications, including scheduling, filing, correspondence, and project coordination.
    7. Assist with preparation of donor reports, mailing lists, fundraising materials, and event support.
    8. Support grant administration activities, including data collection, data entry, and reporting requirements.
    9. Enter client and program information into HMIS and other databases as needed to support grant compliance and reporting.
    10. Assist with social media posting, communications projects, and donor outreach activities.
    11. Foster teamwork, cooperation, continuous improvement, and results-oriented outcomes through collaboration with staff and volunteers.
    12. File pleadings and documents in Jefferson District, Circuit and Family Courts and in the U.S District and Bankruptcy Courts.
    13. File documents such as deeds in the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office (Deed Room).
    14. Copy documents from court files.
    15. Make deliveries, as needed, to other law firms, courts, or service providers within reasonable walking distance of LAS.
    16. Scan completed files and attach the scanned file to the appropriate case in the case management system.
    17. File completed case files alphabetically in archive area.
    18. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.
    2. Dedication to mission of pursuing justice for people living in poverty.
    3. Fundamental understanding of fundraising principles and grant-writing process.
    4. Effective oral and written communications skills and ability to convey Legal Aid mission and goals in a clear and effective manner.
    5. Familiarity with donor databases preferred.
    6. Ability to manage workload in a systematic manner, multi-task, and manage tight deadlines.
    7. Ability to treat confidential information appropriately.
    8. Skills to complete a sufficient volume of work based on division of priorities.
    9. Proactive thinker. Identifies problems and defines central issues, evaluates options, and proposes solutions.
    10. Ability to work independently and manage several projects at a time with little direction.
    11. Diligent attention to detail.
    12. Ability to effectively work with colleagues at various levels, contribute to a harmonious work atmosphere, display interest in assisting other employees.
    13. Proficiency in Microsoft environment, electronic mail, and World Wide Web research.
    14. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, hold a valid driver’s license, and be able to be insured under the Legal Aid Society auto insurance policy.

    Physical Requirements:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls or equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
