Job Description

The Developer plays a key role in designing, building, and supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) applications used in factory and manufacturing environments. Working closely with stakeholders and within an agile, cross-functional team, this role translates business needs into robust technical solutions, supports existing MES applications, and contributes to ongoing process and technology improvements. The position is based in the St. Louis, MO area, with a primarily onsite work model Monday through Thursday and remote work on Fridays, and offers flexibility for partial onsite work, particularly during the initial training period.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate as a core development team member to design, develop, and deliver application components for new MES implementations and enhancements to existing MES applications.
• Apply a comprehensive understanding of modern software development and implementation methodologies to build scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Provide technical support for assigned MES applications to factories and internal business partners, including troubleshooting, analyzing, and resolving application issues.
• Investigate and remediate problems in MES and related legacy applications, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
• Maintain and improve user reference materials by writing, revising, or managing the creation of documentation for MES applications.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of MES applications by evaluating and incorporating new technologies and development practices.
• Promote continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance systems, workflows, and support processes.
• Collaborate closely with factory personnel and other internal stakeholders to understand operational needs and ensure solutions align with business requirements.
• Participate actively in agile/scrum ceremonies and team activities, contributing to backlog refinement, estimation, and delivery planning.
• Support application testing, deployments, database-related tasks, and technical documentation as part of end-to-end solution delivery.
• Assist in project management activities related to MES initiatives, including coordination of enhancements and resolution of support calls from factories and business partners.
• Continuously expand technical expertise by learning new technologies, tools, and development disciplines relevant to MES and manufacturing systems.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
• Approximately 7 years of experience in a similar software development role is required.
• Demonstrated experience working on highly collaborative, large cross-functional projects.
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Strong experience troubleshooting and resolving issues in legacy applications.
• Comprehensive understanding of modern software development principles and methodologies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work productively in a cross-functional team environment.
• Understanding of factory floor processes and manufacturing operations.
• Experience working in an agile/scrum environment, preferably using SAFe practices.
• Hands-on experience with Java.
• Hands-on experience with C#.
• Experience with C or C++.
• Proficiency with the .NET Framework.
• Strong JavaScript development skills.
• Experience with Angular (version 5 or higher).
• Proficiency in HTML and CSS.
• Experience with JSP.
• Experience configuring and working with Tomcat.
• Experience configuring and working with IIS.
• Proficiency with SQL Server.
• Experience working with DB2.
• Experience with ORM frameworks such as Hibernate and Entity Framework.
• Experience using Azure DevOps for development lifecycle management.
• Experience developing with Microsoft Power Apps.
• Experience supporting manufacturing or factory automation environments.
• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
• Familiarity with software testing practices and tools.
• Experience with application deployments in production environments.
• Familiarity with database management concepts and practices.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.
• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and development disciplines related to technical solution delivery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) experience, including implementation, support, or enhancement of MES applications.
• Experience providing application support in manufacturing or factory automation environments.
• Familiarity with end-to-end software testing, including functional, integration, and regression testing.
• Experience participating in deployment planning and execution for enterprise applications.
• Working knowledge of database management, including performance considerations and data integrity.
• Experience writing clear technical documentation for users and support teams.
• Willingness to broaden expertise across testing, development, database, deployment, documentation, and project management.
• Comfort working in large, collaborative teams with diverse technical and business stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to promote process improvements and contribute to continuous enhancement initiatives.
• Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to analyze complex technical issues in production environments.

Work Environment

The role is based in the St. Louis, MO area, with a work model that typically involves onsite work Monday through Thursday and remote work on Fridays. The team offers flexibility, and the Developer may be onsite approximately two days per week on average, with a higher onsite presence expected during the initial training period. The work environment centers on supporting factory and manufacturing operations, including close collaboration with factory floor personnel and internal business partners. The technical environment includes modern software development tools and technologies such as Java, C, C#, C++, .NET Framework, JavaScript, Angular (v5+), HTML/CSS, JSP, Tomcat, IIS, SQL Server, DB2, ORM frameworks like Hibernate and Entity Framework, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft Power Apps. Work is organized within an agile/scrum framework, preferably following SAFe practices, with regular team ceremonies and collaborative planning. The setting is professional and focused on reliability, quality, and continuous improvement in manufacturing systems, with an expectation of attire appropriate for a professional office and occasional factory floor interactions.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $61.00 - $61.00/hr.
