Description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Dev/Research Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite full time in Mossville, IL, with case-by-case flexibility. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $46/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). The position is first shift, approximately 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, and may require up to 25% travel, including travel to Chillicothe, IL and other testing locations.
Job Summary
The Dev/Research Engineer will be responsible for developing, conducting, analyzing, and managing engine structures and dynamics validation testing. This role supports the validation of engine components and systems through test planning, execution, data analysis, and communication of results. The engineer will evaluate complex structural failure modes, perform vibration and structural testing, and provide technical guidance to support new product, technology, and product-improvement programs. The position involves hands-on work with engine and bench testing, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, prototype hardware, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, conduct, analyze, and manage engine structures and dynamics validation tests.
  • Plan and execute component and system testing, including vibration, stress/strain, modal, on-engine, and bench testing.
  • Utilize data acquisition systems including eDAQ, LMS, and cDAQ, and analyze vibration and structural test data using tools such as ME-SCOPE and LMS.
  • Evaluate complex structural failure modes and provide technical recommendations to support product development and field-issue resolution.
  • Coordinate the design and procurement of prototype hardware and set up instrumentation and gaging for testing.
  • Manage project planning, generate technical reports, and clearly communicate test conclusions and results.
  • Collaborate closely with design, simulation, testing, and other cross-functional engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of testing experience; internships may count toward experience.
  • Basic understanding of internal combustion engines and machinery.
  • Strong project management skills, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Experience with engineering-related computer applications, including CAD.
  • Strong technical communication skills and ability to understand customer needs and product applications.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively across multiple engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of structural dynamics and vibration.
  • Experience with NVH testing and/or structural simulation.
  • Experience with modal testing, vibration analysis, and stress/strain measurement.
  • Experience with eDAQ, LMS, cDAQ, and ME-SCOPE.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve validation efficiency and champion new initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple engine programs and priorities while collaborating with multiple teams.
