Description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Dev/Research Engineer 2 in Mossville, IL. The work will be done onsite full time at the Mossville Tech Center. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $43/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). The position follows a first-shift schedule, approximately 8:00 AM–4:30 PM with some flexibility, and may require up to 25% domestic travel.

Job Summary
We are seeking a Dev/Research Engineer to support the validation and development of drivetrain and powertrain systems. This position combines hands-on laboratory testing with engineering analysis to evaluate system performance, durability, reliability, and product risks. The engineer will work closely with design, controls, and cross-functional teams to define validation requirements, execute testing, analyze complex data, troubleshoot issues, and support New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and execute drivetrain component and system validation testing.
  • Prepare and instrument test units, including test setups and data acquisition systems.
  • Analyze complex test data, compare results against requirements, and identify performance gaps or product risks.
  • Apply system-level engineering principles to evaluate component interactions and performance tradeoffs.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues encountered during testing.
  • Perform inspections, failure analysis, and structured root cause investigations.
  • Support NPI/CPI build events, validation activities, and issue resolution.
  • Document test procedures, results, engineering findings, and conclusions in clear technical reports.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred; a relevant master’s degree is also acceptable. Associate degrees are not accepted.
  • 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience; internships may count toward experience. Candidates with a master’s degree should still have approximately 2 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of drivetrain or powertrain mechanical systems.
  • Experience with complex data analysis and engineering interpretation.
  • Experience with failure analysis and root cause investigation.
  • Hands-on experience with product validation and test planning/execution.
  • Experience performing laboratory-based, system-level testing.
  • Knowledge of test instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues during testing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with drivetrain, powertrain, engines, transmissions, or related mechanical systems.
  • Experience supporting NPI/CPI, product development, or validation programs.
  • Strong system-level engineering mindset with the ability to understand component interactions and engineering tradeoffs.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, analytical and critical-thinking skills, and sound engineering decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
