Job Summary

Supervises training, scheduling and performance of Detention Officers. Performs role of Detention Officer as required. Provides support to management as directed.

Essential Functions

1. Oversees shift operations for the Detention Center including evaluating performance, scheduling, and coordinating work activities of Detention/Transport Officers.

2. Identifies and recommends training needs for detention personnel.

3. Assists manager in writing and updating policies and procedures.

4. Performs all functions of Detention/Transport Officers.

5. Provides support to manager when required.

6. Identifies and makes budgetary recommendations for Detention Center personnel and operations.

7. Ensure compliance with PREA Standards, to include training for detention personnel.

8. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

9. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.

10. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

• Must be knowledgeable and stay up to date on laws and policies as they relate to the operation of the Detention Center.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age of 18. High school diploma or equivalent.

Must pass TLETS access and CJIS awareness course within six (6) months from date of hire.

Basic Detention Officer's training including knowledge of regulations for detention area conduct and operations, knowledge of first aid and five years Detention Officer experience or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

Must pass a Municipal Jailer training class approved by the department. Must receive Intoxilyzer certification within one year from date of hire or at the earliest available opportunity thereafter.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check, polygraph and credit check. Must have a valid Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Due to Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) requirements, the candidate must never have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order. Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Deferred Adjudication, or Felony Conviction are permanent disqualifiers.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level 1), Titmus vision screening, Ishihara vision screening, and a smell test.
