Minimum Qualifications
To get started, youll need to be:
- At least18 years old and a U.S. Citizen
- A high school graduate or have a GED; Qualified applicants with a college degree may receive enhanced compensation.
- A South Carolina licensed driver; or the ability to obtain a South Carolina driver's license
- Honorably discharged from the military (if applicable).
- Have no pending cases or criminal felony convictions (misdemeanors may require expungement).
- No THC or Marijuana use within 365 days; some drugs are automatic disqualifiers.
- No student loans in default status.
- Must pass background checks
- Must successfully complete the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy's Basic Detention course of instruction within the first year of employment.
- Master Detention Deputy positions are available for applicants who qualify (10+ years' detention/corrections experience and/or military/additional education).
- Master Detention Deputy hiring salary - $61,489.61 to $71,611.54.
