Job Summary/Basic Function:
Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a Desk Attendant/Porter. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall upkeep of a building. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary based on operational requirements and business needs.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Desk attendant:
Monitor and oversee surveillance cameras to maintain building security
Notify tenants promptly to visitors' arrival and package deliveries
Sort, log and distribute incoming mail and packages
Manage sign-in and sign out procedures for vendor, contractors and guests
Provide courteous assistance and greeting to residents and visitors
Enforce building policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance
Maintain the cleanliness of the front desk and main entrance
Porter:
Clean, dust and sanitized surfaces; vacuum, sweep and mop floors in shared and common areas
Remove from bins and compactor, recyclables, garbage and compose for sanitation pickup
Transport safely large items from Seth Low to the main campus for disposal
Assist with exterior cleaning: watering of plants and snow removal
Report maintenance concerns to the supervisor or manager
Fulfill work orders as they become available
Serve as a mover as needed
Strip and wax floor as needed.
Deep clean apartments and windows for incoming tenants
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
1-2 years' experience working as a desk attendant or customer service representative
1-2 years' experience working as a porter, custodian, or janitor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
Basic computer skills needed
Must be able to work independently
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Be able to walk and stand for an extended period of time
Be able to lift 50 lbs or more
Have the ability to climb stairs and ladders
Preferred Qualifications:
College Degree
3-5 years of custodial experience
3-5 years of desk attendant experience
Salary Range:
$22.99/hr
