Venture Builders is a remodeling and construction company serving homeowners in the Harrisonburg, Virginia area. We are seeking a Designer/Estimator/Sales professional to join our team and help homeowners turn their remodeling ideas into well-planned, accurately estimated projects.

The Designer/Estimator/Sales position is a hybrid role combining residential remodeling design, construction estimating, and consultative sales. The ideal candidate will be comfortable meeting with homeowners, understanding their goals and budgets, developing project concepts and estimates, presenting options, and helping guide clients through the decision-making process.

$23–$27 per hour, depending on experience

Position Overview

As the Designer/Estimator/Sales, you will serve as an important point of contact for homeowners throughout the early stages of their remodeling project.

You will:

  • Meet with homeowners to understand their remodeling goals, needs, preferences, and budget.
  • Help clients define the scope of their remodeling project.
  • Develop design concepts and project recommendations based on client needs.
  • Prepare accurate construction estimates for residential remodeling projects.
  • Research and obtain pricing for materials, labor, subcontractors, and other project costs.
  • Prepare proposals, options, allowances, and other project documentation.
  • Present estimates and design concepts to clients.
  • Explain project scope, pricing, selections, timelines, and next steps.
  • Make recommendations that balance the client's vision, budget, and practical construction considerations.
  • Enter project and estimate information into JobTread.
  • Coordinate with the production team, vendors, and subcontractors as projects move forward.
  • Maintain communication with clients throughout the sales and preconstruction process.

Essential Responsibilities

Client Consultation & Sales

  • Conduct client consultations to understand project goals, priorities, style preferences, and budget.
  • Build strong relationships with prospective and existing clients.
  • Ask effective questions to understand what the client is trying to accomplish with their remodeling project.
  • Educate clients about remodeling options, materials, construction considerations, and project expectations.
  • Develop and present project proposals based on client needs.
  • Follow up with prospective clients and maintain timely communication throughout the sales process.
  • Help clients make informed decisions regarding project scope, materials, selections, and budget.
  • Clearly communicate pricing and project expectations.
  • Maintain a professional, consultative sales approach focused on finding the right solution for the client.

Residential Remodeling Design

  • Work with homeowners to develop design concepts for remodeling projects.
  • Assist clients with selections related to finishes, fixtures, materials, colors, layouts, and other design elements.
  • Translate client preferences and ideas into practical remodeling solutions.
  • Collaborate with the client and internal team to refine project scope and selections.
  • Consider how design selections affect project cost, scope, materials, and construction requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client selections and project specifications.

Construction Estimating

  • Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for residential remodeling projects.
  • Review project scope, plans, specifications, selections, measurements, and other relevant information.
  • Determine appropriate labor, material, subcontractor, and other project costs.
  • Obtain pricing and lead-time information from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Review estimates for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify missing information or potential cost issues before proposals are presented to clients.
  • Revise estimates as project scope or client selections change.
  • Prepare change orders and revised pricing when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate estimating information in JobTread.

Proposals & Contracts

  • Prepare clear and accurate project proposals.
  • Present estimates, pricing options, allowances, and project scope to homeowners.
  • Explain the relationship between design selections, project scope, and overall project cost.
  • Enter approved project information into JobTread and other company systems.
  • Begin the process of transferring approved estimates and project information into contracts.
  • Ensure project information is accurate and complete before transitioning the project to the appropriate team members.

Production & Project Coordination

While the primary focus of the Designer/Estimator/Sales role is design, estimating, and sales, this position will also support the transition of sold projects into production.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors regarding pricing, availability, lead times, and project requirements.
  • Assist with material ordering and delivery coordination.
  • Track material availability and expected delivery dates.
  • Communicate project information and selections to the production team.
  • Help ensure subcontractors have accurate information regarding project scope and requirements.
  • Follow up on outstanding materials, selections, pricing, or other information needed to keep projects moving.
  • Communicate changes or potential issues to the appropriate team members.
  • Maintain organized and accurate project information in JobTread.

Qualifications

The ideal Designer/Estimator/Sales candidate will have experience in residential remodeling, construction estimating, interior design, kitchen and bath design, or a related field.

Qualifications include:

  • Experience in residential remodeling, construction, design, estimating, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction and remodeling processes.
  • Ability to understand client needs and translate them into practical project solutions.
  • Experience preparing estimates, proposals, or project pricing is strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable discussing budgets, pricing, materials, and project scope with homeowners.
  • Strong computer skills and willingness to learn construction management and estimating software.
  • Experience with JobTread or similar construction/project management software is a plus.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer systems and software applications.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, measurements, and project documentation is preferred.
