Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused
Electric Distribution Design Technician to support the design and management of electric distribution projects for new and existing customers. This role combines project coordination, customer interaction, field assessments, and utility system design to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric service solutions.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, and collaborate effectively with customers, engineering teams, construction crews, and other stakeholders. Prior utility experience is helpful but not required.
Responsibilities
- Design and manage electric distribution and service projects for residential, commercial, and industrial customers
- Create and modify distribution system designs using GIS-based design tools
- Conduct field assessments and site visits to gather project requirements and validate designs
- Coordinate customer requests, project schedules, and construction activities
- Review customer requirements and determine appropriate electrical service solutions
- Perform tasks such as transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and pole placement planning
- Manage multiple projects throughout the design lifecycle from initiation through completion
- Create and maintain project documentation, design records, and work packages
- Track project progress and communicate updates to customers, contractors, and internal teams
- Utilize SAP, GIS, and related systems to manage project information and customer requests
- Participate in team planning meetings, project reviews, and scheduling discussions
- Support construction and field personnel with design questions and project-related issues
- Ensure projects meet quality, safety, budget, and schedule requirements

- Adaptability and willingness to learn new systems, technologies, and processes
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally for field visits
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GIS, Smallworld, AutoCAD, or similar design systems
- Electrical utility, construction, engineering, or infrastructure experience
- Experience with project coordination or project management
- Familiarity with SAP or work management systems
- Knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility operations
- Background in construction, field operations, technical services, or customer-facing project work
