Position Overview
We are seeking a Utility Design Technician to support transportation and infrastructure projects by assisting with utility coordination, design documentation, and relocation planning. This role involves reviewing construction plans, identifying utility conflicts, preparing design documentation, and collaborating with project teams to ensure successful project delivery. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced with civil design software used in transportation projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise utility design drawings using industry-standard CAD software.
- Review roadway and highway construction plans to identify potential utility conflicts.
- Assist with utility coordination efforts and support utility relocation planning.
- Perform drafting quality reviews to ensure design accuracy and compliance with project standards.
- Help monitor project schedules and coordinate utility-related activities with project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering staff, consultants, contractors, and utility representatives throughout project development.
- Collect and organize field information to support design efforts.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks.
- Maintain compliance with applicable design standards, procedures, and project requirements.
- Support knowledge sharing by assisting with cross-training initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Two to four years of experience supporting civil, utility, or transportation design projects.
- Proficiency with at least one civil design platform such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK, or AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret highway or roadway construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of utility design, coordination, and construction practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.
- Willingness to successfully complete required pre-employment screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating multiple utility relocation or infrastructure projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with environmental permitting and mitigation requirements.
- Experience developing utility relocation plans and project schedules.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary project teams and external utility stakeholders.
