Introduction
The Design & Release Engineer for Roof Mechanisms Systems is responsible for the design, development, validation, release, and implementation of various roof systems such as moonroofs, convertible tops, and alternative roof tops. The role involves driving design improvements to enhance quality and optimize cost/weight throughout development and production. The engineer will lead suppliers and guide the design of roof mechanism components, ensuring compliance with requirements and managing attributes like design feasibility, NVH, water management, craftsmanship, and crash safety.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field
- 2 years of engineering experience in design, development, or launch of automotive mechanisms
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA, 3DX, Teamcenter
- Familiarity with CAE tools and software
- Ability to manage multiple issues effectively and efficiently
- Proficient in MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Must be able to work directly for Artech on W2
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in design and release of roof system-related mechanism applications
- Software literacy and mechatronics experience
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis
- Experience with DFMEA's, PFMEA's, and SCCAF's
- Knowledgeable in the Phased PPAP process
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead roof systems suppliers to meet program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver a robust vehicle-level system
- Prepare and present technical presentations for peer and management reviews
- Perform and/or review technical analyses and sign off on results
- Develop and release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS through the product lifecycle
- Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions using Six Sigma principles
- Support parts sign-off at assembly plants and resolve quality issues at all milestones
- Travel to supplier and North America plant sites as required
