Your Role

Akkodis is seeking a Design Release Engineer for a Contract with a client in Dearborn, MI. The ideal candidate with experience supporting rocker molding design, development, and release activities for automotive exterior systems while coordinating body scope requirements across cross-functional teams.

Rate Range: $40/hour to $42/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Design Release Engineer Job Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design, development, and release of rocker molding systems, ensuring compliance with automotive performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.

  • Create and manage engineering releases for injection-molded plastic components, supporting all phases of the product development lifecycle.

  • Coordinate body scope activities across cross-functional teams and suppliers, tracking program timing, part maturity, and issue resolution.

  • Conduct design feasibility assessments and provide engineering feedback during development checkpoints in accordance with established release processes and standards.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supplier, and program teams to resolve design issues and support successful product launches.

  • Ensure rocker molding and exterior trim systems meet vehicle integration, durability, fit-and-finish, and North American legal requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 3+ years of experience in automotive design and release engineering with a focus on exterior systems and plastic components.

  • Strong experience designing and releasing injection-molded plastic automotive components, including rocker molding and exterior trim systems.

  • Knowledge of design and release processes, GPDS methodology, feasibility reviews, and cross-functional coordination for program timing, part maturity, and issue resolution.

Pay Details: $40.00 to $42.00 per hour
