As part of our Transportation team, you'll support major alternative delivery transportation programs that improve mobility, strengthen communities, and create lasting value for our clients.

As a Design Manager, you'll play a critical role in guiding the technical development and integration of large-scale transportation projects. You'll lead multidisciplinary design reviews, coordinate across engineering disciplines, identify and address technical risks, and help ensure projects advance efficiently from development through implementation readiness. Your leadership and engineering expertise will help drive high-quality, constructible solutions that support successful project outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Lead technical reviews of major design submittals, including preliminary designs, engineering studies, technical reports, and supporting analyses
  • Serve as the primary technical lead for multidisciplinary design integration across complex transportation projects
  • Evaluate designs for technical quality, constructability, coordination, and alignment with project requirements
  • Identify and help resolve cross-discipline conflicts, design inconsistencies, constructability concerns, and technical risks
  • Establish and maintain consistent technical direction across multidisciplinary review teams
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of technical review and evaluation processes
  • Determine appropriate review disciplines and review levels for incoming design submittals
  • Coordinate with discipline leads and project leadership to facilitate timely and comprehensive technical reviews
  • Assess project constraints, impacts, and risks across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Support the development of mitigation strategies for identified technical risks
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Manage the scope and responsibilities of multiple subconsultants
  • Collaborate with client representatives, project partners, and program leadership to address complex technical issues
  • Support successful project delivery through effective engineering review, design integration, and technical coordination

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation design, design management, or technical leadership
  • Experience on large infrastructure projects, including Design-Build, P3, alternative delivery, or major transportation programs
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of transportation project development and design integration
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Experience on P3, Design-Build, or other progressive delivery projects
  • Experience serving as a Design Manager, Technical Manager, Design Integration Lead, or Lead Discipline Coordinator
  • Experience performing constructability reviews and supporting phased implementation strategies
  • Experience supporting Owner's Representative, Independent Engineering, Program Management, or Technical Advisor assignments
  • Experience evaluating environmental, utility, right-of-way, and operational impacts on major transportation projects
  • DBIA, PMP, or related professional certification
  • Demonstrated ability to apply systems thinking and evaluate projects at a corridor, program, or network level
  • Strong technical judgment and cross-discipline coordination experience
  • Experience identifying and addressing technical risks early in project development
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to build alignment across technical disciplines while exercising independent engineering judgment
  • Experience working in fast-paced alternative delivery environments
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities

Posted Salary Range: Minimum

123,600.00

Posted Salary Range: Upper

180,000.00

The base salary range for this position is $123,600.00 to $180,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
