    Job Summary

    At TYLin, we are seeking an accomplished Design Manager – Maintenance Control Facility (MCF) to lead the design and delivery of a major maintenance facility project in the New York City region. This role is ideally suited to an experienced Registered Architect or Professional Engineer with a strong technical design background and demonstrated experience leading complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

    The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of the design and delivery of rail stations, rail maintenance facilities, transit facilities, aviation maintenance facilities, or similarly complex transportation infrastructure. Experience working with MTA, Ports Authority or NJ Transit projects, standards, and stakeholders is highly valued.

    The Opportunity 

    As Design Manager, you will serve as a key technical and managerial leader throughout the design process, coordinating architects, engineers, specialty consultants, clients, and construction partners to deliver a high-quality, coordinated, and constructible facility. You will provide hands-on design leadership while managing design quality, schedule, coordination, and technical interfaces across the project.

    This position is based in the New York City / New Jersey region.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Lead the design and multidisciplinary coordination of a Maintenance Control Facility (MCF) project from concept through detailed design and delivery.

    • Serve as a senior design leader, coordinating architectural, structural, civil, MEP, systems, rail, and other specialty disciplines as required.

    • Provide hands-on technical oversight and design direction, ensuring solutions are functional, coordinated, constructible, and aligned with project requirements.

    • Manage the integration of building, site, transportation, and operational requirements within a complex maintenance facility environment.

    • Coordinate closely with clients, agency stakeholders, design partners, contractors, and internal technical teams throughout the design process.

    • Oversee design schedules, technical deliverables, quality control, design coordination, and resolution of multidisciplinary issues.

    • Identify design risks, constructability challenges, and technical interfaces early and develop practical solutions.

    • Support design reviews, agency submissions, technical presentations, and stakeholder meetings.

    • Work closely with construction partners, particularly within Design-Build environments, to support constructability, phasing, value engineering, and resolution of design issues.

    • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to architects and engineers across multiple disciplines.

    • Support business development, proposals, and pursuit activities related to major Rail + Transit and transportation facility opportunities in the NYC region.

    What You’ll Bring:

    • Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.

    • 15+ years of progressive design experience delivering complex buildings, transportation infrastructure, or other technically demanding facilities.

    • Demonstrated experience leading the design and coordination of rail stations, rail maintenance facilities, transit facilities, aviation maintenance facilities, or comparable transportation facilities.

    • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination and the ability to integrate architectural, engineering, operational, and infrastructure requirements.

    • Experience managing design teams and coordinating multiple technical disciplines through complex project phases.

    • Experience with Design-Build project delivery is strongly preferred.

    • Demonstrated ability to review and challenge technical design solutions while maintaining a practical, project-focused approach.

    • Strong understanding of constructability, design quality, technical risk, and project delivery requirements.

    • Excellent communication, coordination, and client-facing skills.

    • Ability to work collaboratively with architects, engineers, contractors, clients, and agency stakeholders.

    • Must be based in the New York City or New Jersey region, with the ability to support project and client meetings as required.

    Additional Information

    TYLin is committed to pay equity.As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $160,000 - $220,000 annually for this position and local market.
