    TrinityRail is searching for a Design Engineer - Parts & Components to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas!

    What you'll do:

    • Evaluate designs and products for compliance with regulatory and contractual standards in terms of material, stability and performance; follow established engineering procedures and policies; manage engineering change process
    • Develop scope of work, engineering drawing packages, and repair procedures to support maintenance and repair of Trinity Industries Leasing Company railcar assets
    • Create or serve as project leader for production of layouts, specifications, prototype build drawings and bill of materials
    • Direct functional activities of drafters or drafting teams
    • Provide internal technical consultative services to division/plant managers and team in sales, engineering and manufacturing departments. Maintain external relationships with vendors, customers, engineering and operating personnel at various companies regarding non-standard components and technical developments
    • Support Trinity Industries Leasing Company improvement initiatives
    • Work with customers in designing new products and processes with quality, performance, production and profitability in mind
    • Ensure design intent is maintained
    • Make design and material recommendations to achieve desired results. Provide support to Sales to design for repair options with parts and kitting needs while modifying existing fleets to current standards
    • Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining technical aspects of the products or services to existing and potential customers
    • Work closely with new product development departments and Market strategy team to help to identify and develop new products for aftermarket
    • Identify Excess & Obsolete inventory to reduce duplicate number of parts, reuse or re-id parts and recycle

    What you'll need:

    • B.S. in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
    • 3+ years' experience of engineering procedures and administration; emphasis on railcar design preferred
    • Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal
    • Excellent Microsoft Office skills necessary
    • Ability to multi-task / handle multiple projects of differing scale
    • Demonstrated ability to execute all phases of product design, prototype development, product analysis and manufacturing processes while conforming to applicable regulatory standards and practices. Knowledge of AAR and/or FRA regulations preferred.
    • Experience in a manufacturing or repair plant in a Mechanical Engineer, Project Engineer, or Resident Engineer position with a custom product, freight and/or tank car production or maintenance preferred.
    • Knowledge of railcar operating environment preferred
    • Knowledge of rail and/or hazardous material regulations preferred
    • Knowledge of stress analysis preferred
