Description

Design Engineer L2 Raymond, OH Pay: $40 12 months+

Requires a BS or MS in engineering. All the skills and abilities of Engineer L1. Additionally, must be proficient in technical writing and possess computer skills for scientific and technical applications. Must be able to proficiently handle multiple projects and develop analytical procedures. Work with suppliers to ensure parts/services are requested appropriately, evaluate technical proposals, and write technical reports. Make technical decisions with moderate supervision. Ability to report research and test results in various technical formats. Able to work with a team or on an individual basis to reach project goals.

Key Background Requirements:
•Must be able to design and develop Chassis components (Subframe, Engine Mounts, Suspension/Steering components, etc).
Prior design experience with complex aluminum die casting and stamped/welded structures is preferred.
•Must be able to work with other design and test engineers and suppliers to analyze and resolve technical problems.
•Must be able to handle multiple projects and work with a team to meet development schedules.

•Requires Catia V6 proficiency (Solids Modeling must; Surfacing modeling want)
•Design intent and robust modeling (models can withstand major revision)
•Ability to create and interpret 2D Drawings.
•GD&T awareness.
•Prefer previous Chassis design experience.
•Strong understanding of design for manufacturability.
•Ability to pick up new standards and methodologies.
•Capability to create and interpret basic CAE models (stiffness, natural frequency, etc)

CAD-heavy experience (primary focus of role)
Work centers on:
3D layout
Part analysis

Strong solid modeling experience (required)
Most parts are modeled as solids
CATIA experience:
CATIA V6 preferred
CATIA V5 acceptable
2D drawing fundamentals
GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
Dimensioning practices
Tolerance stack analysis
General mechanical design capability
Part design and analysis within vehicle development flow
Ability to support multiple engineering groups as needed
Castings
Experience with die casting
Design considerations for large aluminum cast components
Stamping & welding
Knowledge of stamped components and welded assemblies
Understanding of manufacturability for these parts
Subframe components (top priority)
Related areas (nice to have)
Engine mounts
Suspension / steering systems
Acceptable alternatives
Body-in-white (BIW) or similar stamped/cast structure experience is acceptable
