Our client, who is a growing engineering-focused organization in the Albany, NY area is seeking a Design Engineer to join its research and development team. This role is well suited for a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys product development, testing, and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.


Position Overview:
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, testing, and validation of new and existing products. This individual will play a key role in translating customer and regulatory requirements into reliable, manufacturable designs while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and new product development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute design verification and validation plans
  • Develop and document test procedures, fixtures, lab setups, and test reports
  • Perform engineering analysis to solve complex design and performance challenges
  • Conduct and support design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA)
  • Build expertise in applicable industry codes, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Communicate effectively with customers to understand needs and provide technical support
  • Support new product development from concept through production
  • Create detailed 3D models, part drawings, and bills of materials using CAD software
  • Assist manufacturing with production of first-article builds and design-for-manufacturing considerations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and other projects as assigned
  • Travel to customer locations as needed


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 3-5+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software; experience with Creo strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and test methodologies
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong communication abilities
  • High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required


Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience and education, with an approximate range of $80,000-$110,000.
