Senior Network Engineer

Deliver network designs, perform implementations, and provide troubleshooting to Structured's customers.

Structured Communication Systems is a leading information technology consultancy and systems integrator. Structured Communication Systems, Inc, is seeking a Senior Network Engineer located in Clackamas, Oregon to join our team.

As part of our team, you'll be responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise networking solutions for a diverse customer base while serving as a trusted technical advisor throughout the solution lifecycle. You'll collaborate with customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders to develop innovative networking solutions, resolve complex technical challenges, and deliver successful projects that meet business and technical objectives.

Compensation: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 Annually

• Designs, installs, configures, troubleshoots, and manages enterprise networking solutions.
• Researches, evaluates, and recommends network-related tools, technologies, and solutions to meet customer business and technical objectives.
• Interfaces with customers and end users to design and implement networking solutions and provide network policy recommendations.
• Translates business requirements into functional and technical specifications.
• Develops implementation plans and alternative technical designs that meet customer performance, scalability, and cost objectives.
• Designs solutions that improve system reliability, reduce risk, and minimize total lifecycle cost.
• Assists engineers with complex technical tasks, including debugging, hardware support, system integration, and advanced troubleshooting.
• Identifies, analyzes, and resolves complex technical issues, including escalated support requests from Structured's Managed Services team.
• Provides advanced technical expertise to support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of customer network environments.
• Manages customer interactions in a professional and courteous manner by providing timely communication regarding expectations, project status, issue resolution, and completion while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
• Provides product training, technical support, and knowledge transfer to customers and internal teams.
• Serves as a technical advisor by recommending networking solutions that align with customer business and operational needs.
• Assists sales personnel with pre-sales technical support by leveraging technical expertise to identify professional services opportunities in the areas of security, networking, storage/systems, virtualization, and voice/mobility.
• Effectively communicates Structured's value proposition through technical presentations, proposals, demonstrations, and supporting sales collateral, as needed, to support sales initiatives and brand awareness.
• Leads or assists with network-related projects by managing project scope, timelines, work assignments, stakeholder communication, and successful implementation.
• Manages assigned projects and technical work to ensure effective, efficient, and timely delivery of services.
• Develops and maintains clear, accurate technical documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), project scopes, implementation plans, Statements of Work (SOWs), and operational procedures.
• Follows established policies and procedures for documenting activities within Structured's CRM and service delivery tools.
• Maintains accurate and timely project, customer, and service records in accordance with company standards.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least twelve (12) years of experience in a technology-related field, including seven (7) years of experience in systems analysis.

• Must have direct experience in physical networking infrastructure, including cabling standards, optical fiber technologies, network interfaces, connectors, and physical connectivity troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with Layer 2 networking technologies, including Ethernet, VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), and Layer 2 security.
• Advanced knowledge of enterprise routing technologies, including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, IP addressing, subnetting, VRF, and IPv4/IPv6 networking.
• Experience with enterprise networking platforms including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Aruba, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) technologies.
• Must have experience and familiarity with network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, access control, and network security best practices.
• Advanced working knowledge of enterprise switch configuration, QoS, PoE, multicast, and Precision Time Protocol technologies.
• Experience with MPLS, SD-WAN, WAN optimization, and remote access solutions.
• Knowledge of modern data center networking architectures, including spine-leaf designs, VXLAN, EVPN, and high-availability configurations.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience with cloud networking concepts and services within AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments.
• Experience with network automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef, and scripting languages including Python, PowerShell, or Shell.
• Experience with network monitoring, performance analysis, and troubleshooting tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience with change management, technical documentation, configuration management, process automation, as well as solution design and implementation, is preferred.
• Advanced networking certifications such as Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE), or equivalent certifications are preferred.

General Office Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be an experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with customer relationship management (CRM) tools, such as Salesforce.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret quotes and reports. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, to perform essential job functions such as corresponding, presenting information, and responding to questions from employees, management, vendors, and customers, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must have the ability to occasionally travel to customer locations or to attend customer and vendor events.

Work is performed in both a general office environment, as well as a data center environment. Within the general office environment both the lighting and temperature are generally moderate. The data center environment is generally cool in temperature and the lighting is moderate; the noise level in the data center environment is generally loud.

Must have a valid Driver's License and motor vehicle insurance (at least equal to the state's minimum coverage requirements) and the ability to travel to customer locations and other destinations for meetings, or conferences including short to medium term projects. This position may also require an adjusted work schedule and evening hours in order to meet or attend vendor/customer needs. Flexibility to field phone calls, or system alerts and provide remote and/or on-site support to internal and external clients outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.
