ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Our client is seeking a high-potential Deputy Systems Engineer to serve as a direct pipeline toward a future Lead Systems Engineering role supporting complex spacecraft programs.
Working closely with the Lead Systems Engineer, the Deputy Systems Engineer will assist with the technical integrity of spacecraft design, integration, and environmental testing throughout the full mission lifecycle. The position will also provide direct oversight and guidance to junior engineering staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serves as the deputy to the Lead Systems Engineer across the full technical scope, with broad fluency across space technologies
• Absorbs systems-of-systems trades spanning hardware, software, and everything in between; the role is as much coordination as technical depth, so strong organizational skills are required
• Analyzes user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements and specifications; leads design and development activities
• Guides users in formulating requirements, advises alternate approaches, and conducts feasibility studies
• Provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology, and incorporates new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations
• Develops system architecture and system design documentation; guides implementation planning through system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans
• Designs hardware and software interfaces, including human-machine interfaces, that connect and inter-operate correctly and can accept new features
• Interacts with the Government on Systems Engineering technical considerations, problems, issues, and conflicts, and owns the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables
• Extensive experience with real-time space, ground, test, avionics, telecommunication (terrestrial and space), and encryption/decryption hardware and software systems
• Experience with system architecture and design of real-time data acquisition systems for complex spacecraft operations and support, simultaneous multiple spacecraft processing, flight system bus development, and integration, test, and communication support systems
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining complex network infrastructures with emphasis on data security, information assurance, and cryptographic devices

 
 
Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field
• Experience in systems engineering, preferably supporting spacecraft, aerospace, or defense programs
• Understanding of the spacecraft or system development lifecycle
• Experience with systems integration, verification, testing, or technical requirements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of technical assignments and manage competing priorities
• Experience mentoring, coordinating, or providing technical guidance to junior engineers preferred
• Spacecraft, satellite, or complex aerospace systems experience preferred
• Ability to work with sensitive and classified program information
