I. Supervisory Activities
A. Participates in a panel of ranking officers in the selection interview process assuring that the most qualified persons are selected and assuring for compliance with applicable laws and rules.
B. Provides direct and indirect supervision for subordinate officers, acts as a role model and provides feedback regarding performance.
C. Provides formalized coaching and judging of subordinate officers assuring for professionalism, impartiality, accurate documentation and timeliness.
D. Recommends promotions, provides recognition, and recommends disciplinary action as needed, assuring for professionalism, impartiality, accurate documentation and timeliness.
E. Assists with ensuring the necessary training on specific police processes and activities is provided.
F. Deals with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
G. Responds to requests by immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
H. Allows and requires subordinates to perform their jobs with appropriate levels of supervision.
I. Supervision and scheduling of reception staff at the front desk.
J. Investigating complaints on officers and acting as internal affairs for the department.
II. Budget Related Activities
A. Receives and makes recommendations for the departmental budget. Analyzes and considers all recommendations. Assists in the prioritizing of all recommendations assuring for a comprehensive and complete budget.
III. Planning Activities
A. Assists with determining and setting goals, objectives and projections for future developments assuring that the department is progressive and in step with trends.
B. Attends external meetings, seminars and programs to maintain an awareness of the trends and developments of the law enforcement industry.
C. Attends internal meetings with departmental and other staff persons to obtain input and to encourage ongoing communications.
IV. School Liaison Activities
A. General supervision of the SRO program and School Resource Officers.
B. Acts as a liaison between the police department and the public school system of students, teachers, administrators and parents advising and communicating on matters of crime prevention and the maintenance of a safe learning environment assuring for professionalism and positive public relations.
C. Coordinates with SRO’s and assists with local programs including Active Shooter Training for the school district assuring exceptional role modeling and professionalism.
V. Public Relations
A. Makes public relations presentations, responds to citizens' questions or inquiries and speaks to citizen's groups assuring that the police department and the City is represented and presents a positive public image at all times.
B. Attends and participates in extracurricular activities in the community assuring high visibility and professionalism in the community.
C. Speaks with media and gives press briefings when necessary.
D. Attend City Council meetings during the absence of the Police Chief.
VI. Routine Police Duties
A. Assists with patrol activities as needed, including report writing, assuring for safety, positive public image and professionalism.
B. Assists as needed with physical deterrent activities assuring for safety, departmental policy compliance and other applicable laws and rules.
C. Assists with community policing activities as needed, providing compliance with all departmental and outside agency laws and regulations.
D. Maintains an awareness of safety issues assuring for compliance with all safety procedures.
VII. Computer and building maintenance and upkeep.
A. Assists in setting up and day to day upkeep of computer used by the Police Department as an administrator and reporting issues to COF I.T. Department.
B. Maintaining the Livescan machine as a site administrator.
C. Assists in checking for maintenance issues on the Police Department property and reporting issues to building and grounds for repair.
