Job Overview:
The Deputy Fire Marshal is a supervisory level position within NYRA’s Security Department. The Deputy Fire Marshal assists the Senior Manager of Fire and Emergency Response in NYRA’s efforts in fire prevention, protection and response. The Deputy Fire Marshal conducts and supervises routine inspections and complaint inspections conducted by subordinate Fire Inspectors to ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, orders and instructions issued by any Federal, State or Local Agency. The Deputy Fire Marshal ensures compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards as well as New York State building codes that pertain to Fire Safety on their assigned NYRA Racetrack. May conduct plan review of submitted building plans to assure code compliance. May respond 24-hours/day, 7-days/week due to operational demands. Finally, the Deputy Fire Marshal coordinates closely with NYRA’s Security Department to ensure that assets, employees and patrons are protected to the best of NYRA’s ability.
Essential Functions:
• Patrols NYRA premises and performs fire inspections, as required.
• Conduct fire prevention, inspection of barns, grandstands and dormitories.
• Supervises the Inspection and maintenance of all firefighting and fire prevention equipment.
• Consults with appropriate NYRA officials regarding potential fire hazards and code requirements including issuance of Barn Area Violations for observed violations.
• Maintains and submits thorough incident reports to all appropriate agencies following any accident or reportable event.
• Acts as the primary safety liaison between NYRA, New York State OFPC and local fire departments at their assigned NYRA racetrack.
• Aids in the development of fire safety programs.
• Supervises the semi-annual inspections of fire hydrants and sprinkler connections.
• Trains NYRA Security and other NYRA personnel for evacuation plans for each facility.
• Assists as a member of the emergency fire response team prior to arrival of Fire Department at emergencies.
• Coordinates with NYRA Facilities Department on maintenance of the Fire Alarm System.
• Supervises and reviews all inspection paperwork and records of subordinate members of the department.
• Plans and implements required in-service training for members in core competences of the department
• Takes corrective action to promote professional growth of subordinate members of the department

Qualifications:
• Education: Associate’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management or related field. In lieu of degree 4 years of demonstrated equivalent experience as a Fire Marshal, NYS Code Enforcement Official, Fire Prevention Officer or equivalent functional experience may be considered.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as Fire Marshal, NYS Code Enforcement Official, Fire Prevention Officer or equivalent functional experience.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in fire/life safety related emergency response or demonstrated equivalent functional experience
• Knowledge of conducting thorough fire inspections
• New York State Code Enforcement Officer
• Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards (10,13, 25,72)
• NIMS 100, 200, 700,800
• American Heart Association (or equivalent) CPR/ AED
• Hazardous Materials Operations
• Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of your legal residence.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs
Preferred Qualifications:
• Hazardous Materials Technician
• Fire Inspector (NFPA, Pro-Board or equivalent)
• Fire Investigator (Pro-Board, IAAI-CFI or NAFI-CFEI

• Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)
• Ability to review, understand and interpret construction documents and architectural drawings.
• American Heart Association or Equivalent CPR/AED Instructor

Pay Range / Salary: $75,250-$86,000
