Introduction

The Deputy Director - Human Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for the city of Scottsdale's Human Services Division, a dynamic and diverse organization dedicated to engaging, enriching and empowering Scottsdale residents. This position oversees the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive human services programs, services, and facilities designed to enhance quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, strengthen families and neighborhoods, and support residents experiencing challenges or barriers to well-being.

This executive-level position will provide leadership and direction for a broad portfolio of human services operations, including senior services, neighborhood and community centers, youth and family services, behavioral health and diversion programs, homeless navigation and support services, food assistance, employment and career services, family resource programs, volunteer initiatives, and other programs that respond to the evolving needs of the Scottsdale community. The Human Services Division is part of Scottsdale's Parks, Recreation & Human Services Department.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $67.75/hour or $140,920.00/annually.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited educational institution in Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a related field. Additionally, for Human Services Assignments, acceptable degrees may also include Social Work, Urban Studies, Community Development or related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • Six years supervisory, managerial and administrative experience in municipal recreation, parks maintenance, and/or human services, depending on assignment.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

  • Must possess, at time of application, and maintain a valid, unrestricted drivers license with no major citations within the past 36 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Motor Vehicle Department requires that out-of-state drivers licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Note: Graduated Driver's Licenses are considered restricted.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the city, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.
