Department - Clerk of the Court

Performs specific assigned clerical support and customer service tasks of minimal difficulty under direct supervision. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, direct interaction with the public, inputting data into a computer system, and the handling of important court documents and the processing of financial transactions.

THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO ESTABLISH A REGISTER for current and future Deputy Court Clerk II vacancies in the Clerk of the Court's Office.

Pay range:

Expected Starting Pay: $17.90 Per Hour

Salary Range: $17.90 - $24.16 Per Hour

Range Explanation: 

  • This is an estimate of the hourly rate you can expect to receive as a new hire. The actual offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

  • Salary Range is the entire compensation range for the position. 

What We're Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 

  • A minimum typing speed of 25 wpm is required. 

  • Six months of experience performing a combination of the following: customer service, cashiering, and tasks such as typing, filing, answering phones, and data entry, and using various types of office equipment. Relevant education may be substituted for some of the aforementioned experience as approved by Human Resources.

Essential Duties & Functions:

  • Operate multi-line, high volume phone system.

  • Inputs data into computer system.

  • Receives, categorizes, and processes legal documents.

  • Receives, balances, and performs daily processing of cash, check, and credit payments.

  • Interacts directly, both on the phone and in person, with the general public, legal community, and court personnel.

  • Performs research on a variety of issues related to legal documentation and case filings.

  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality in all work-related activities.

  • Operates various office equipment.

Additional Responsibilities/Duties:

Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

Knowledge of: 

  • English composition, grammar, punctuation, and spelling

  • Standard office practices, procedures, and filing systems

  • Automated information systems, database structures, and standard software (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel)

  • Operating standard office equipment (e.g., fax machines, photocopiers, duplicators, calculators, cash registers)

  • Problem-solving and resolving routine operational issues

Skill in:

  • Providing polite, professional, and effective customer service in person and via high-volume telephone calls
  • Computerized keyboarding and data entry

Ability to:

  • Read, comprehend, research, and verify the accuracy of court documents, minute entries, orders, and legal paperwork

  • Identify, organize, and sort legal documents efficiently

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, court personnel, external agencies, and the public

  • Work quickly and accurately, switch focus among multiple tasks, and manage time constraints

  • Follow brief oral and written instructions promptly and accurately

None required.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Typically performs duties in an office environment. 

  • Some assignments may require lifting 25 to 35 lbs., bending, standing, etc., for extended periods.
