Job Description:

The selected candidate will be appointed to either the Branch Supervisor 9 position (Trainee) or the Branch Supervisor 10 position based on the education and experience listed in their application.

Position Duties:

The primary responsibilities include serving as a working supervisor in various locations, providing excellent customer service, training staff, handling general physical plant issues, maintenance of office equipment and inventoried supplies, preparing various reports, and processing all transactions carried out in a Secretary of State branch office.

Appointment Type/Benefits:

This position is Full-Time. Therefore, you would be eligible to participate in the benefits offered by the state.

Work Schedule:

As a Full-Time position, the incumbent(s) will work a varied schedule of 40 or more hours per week. Occasional travel may be required for relief assignments at other branch offices. To be considered for these positions, please be advised that you must be available to work any of the following days/hours during your appointment:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits).
  • No specific type or amount of experience is required.
  • Alternate Education and Experience:
  • Department Of State Branch Supervisor 9 - 10: Four years of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide, including two years equivalent to a Department of State Aide E8 or one year equivalent to a Department of State Aide 9 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
  • Completion of one year of college and one year of experience as a Department of State Aide E8 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

  • CDLKTEX: Pursuant to the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Enhancement (CMVSE) Act and the requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this designation requires a nationwide criminal history background check prior to position appointment.
  • The employee, once appointed, is required to successfully complete a formal CDL training course and knowledge test prior to certification as a CDL Knowledge Test Examiner.
  • Additionally, the incumbent will be required to pass refresher training and examination every four years.
  • SECCHDPOS: Position requires incumbent to be a United States Citizen and pass a thorough background investigation to comply with Public Act 7 of 2008, Public Act 23 of 2008, and the Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Michigan and the Department of Homeland Security.
  • As part of the Department of States continued efforts to produce secure drivers licenses and personal identification cards, state law (Public Act 7 of 2008) requires the Department to perform security checks on designated positions.
  • This notice is to inform you that if you are appointed to a Security Checked Position, you must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and continue to meet the requirements for the duration of the position.
  • Employment may be terminated if U.S. Citizenship cannot be verified by the first day of employment.
  • The following documents may be used to verify proof of citizenship:
  • Original certified birth certificate issued by a government unit in the U.S. or U.S. territory
  • Valid, unexpired U.S. passport
  • Certificate of Citizenship (N-560, or N-561)

Date of birth needs to be an exact match.   • As outlined by Civil Service, an official transcript must bear the applicant's name, college, or university certification (e.g. seal, logo, watermark, or letterhead), date and name of the conferred degree and registrar's signature. Transcripts that do not meet these requirements are considered unofficial.
  • Applicants who possess a degree from a foreign college or university must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless the degree has been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Go to evaluators for a list of accepted organizations that evaluate foreign credentials. Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process.
