Department of English

The Department of English at Arizona State University invites applications for an in-person Instructor position at the Tempe campus. This is not a remote position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses primarily in the Writing Program and in other disciplinary areas within the department as needed. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (Aug 16 - May 15). A typical full-time course load is five classes per academic semester. Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the unit, availability of resources, and sufficient enrollment in assigned courses. Anticipated start date: August 16, 2027.

Essential Functions of the job:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach undergraduate students in Writing Programs courses and other disciplinary areas as needed, including creating lesson plans, evaluation of student work, regular office hours, and other essential teaching functions
• Use Canvas for assessment of student work
• Participate in all unit and university assessment activities
• Engage in professional development as required
• Attend annual Convocation in-person at the Tempe campus at the end of each semester
