Salary Range: Up to $46,500 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

Department Fiscal Specialist provides fiscal coordination, account support, and leadership for a department or program. This role oversees all aspects of support for fully funded doctoral students, including insurance enrollment, payment administration, and coordination of related student funding processes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversees fiscal, grant, and accounting-related matters for multiple funding sources.
  • Oversees and prepares, processes, and checks various electronic accounting documents.
  • Analyzes data for accuracy and initiates corrective action when necessary.
  • Maintains detailed reports and records of accounting data, including preparing and tracking budgets and preparing billings, financial reports, and related correspondence.
  • Assists in the development and preparation of the annual budget for the department.
  • Assists faculty and staff with financial administrative matters.
  • Provides analysis and interpretation of financial reports and data; provides recommendations for fiscal expenditures and management.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of fiscal policies and procedures for the department.
  • Provides direction and training to staff regarding fiscal management, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists in the coordination and administration of special projects.
  • Attends meetings; serves on committees.
  • Takes a proactive approach to assist co-workers in various tasks.
  • Performs work tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with work instructions.
  • Proactively makes recommendations to improve safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • At the department's discretion, a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four (4) years of experience.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience processing payments, reimbursements, stipends, invoices, or other financial transactions.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to maintain accuracy in financial records and data entry.
  • Knowledge of financial, accounting, payroll, or student funding processes.

Working Conditions

  • Office Environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary; if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will work both on campus and remotely in Texas. Subject to change depending on department need. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
