  • Provides strategic leadership and vision for the department, aligning departmental goals in scholarship, education, patient care, and academically-related public service with the mission and priorities of the medical school and university
  • Oversees faculty recruitment, fosters faculty development, and promotes retention of qualified faculty, fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and professional growth
  • Participates in and promotes excellence in undergraduate medical education, including collaboration on the pre-clerkship and clerkship pediatrics curriculum
  • Fosters success in graduate medical education for the pediatrics residency program
  • Collaborate closely with executive leadership of El Paso Children's Hospital and University Medical Center, including the Chief Executive Officers and senior administrative team, to advance shared strategic, clinical, quality, and operational goals
  • Ensures high-quality clinical care, patient safety, and operational efficiency across all inpatient and outpatient pediatric services, in close partnership with senior leadership of the medical school and affiliated hospitals Partner with hospital quality, safety, and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement across pediatric services
  • Work collaboratively with community-based pediatricians and subspecialists to foster alignment in clinical standards, education, and patient-centered care
  • Manages the departmental resources, budget, and philanthropic efforts, optimizing financial sustainability
  • Serves as a member of the Dean's Council and works collaboratively with departmental chair colleagues
  • Foster and support faculty research and scholarly activity in the department by promoting mentorship, collaboration, and appropriate allocation of effort and resources
  • Serves as a mentor and role model for faculty, residents, staff and students
  • Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
  • Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures

  • Distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and scholarship
  • Experience and understanding of undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education program requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate effectively within and outside the department with senior leadership, clinical partners, and the community
  • Experience in recruiting, retaining, mentoring and developing faculty, staff, and fellows/residents
  • Master's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, medical management, or equivalent administrative experience
  • Experience in managing quality outcomes for patient care services
  • Experience in growing revenue, meeting budgets, assessing clinical and economic performance, and strengthening a department
  • Experience in, or interest in developing expertise in, philanthropy relevant to an academic department
  • Established national reputation for the rank of Professor
  • Demonstrated experience working in partnership with a freestanding children's hospital, hospital-employed physician groups, and community-based pediatric providers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree, or equivalent degree
  • Texas medical license, or eligibility for Texas medical licensure
  • Board certification in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and, if applicable, in a pediatric subspecialty
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher
  • Leadership experience at the level of department chair, vice-chair, division chief, medical director, program director, or comparable role
  • Experience as a practicing clinician in an academic medical center
