About this Opportunity

We are looking for a part-time instructor in our Dental Hygiene program to teach one or more of the following courses:

• DHY 251 (Ethics) The student learns the history of dental hygiene, the importance of ethical standards in the practice of dental hygiene, and the methods of analyzing the legal and political factors controlling dental hygiene practice. The student will acquire skills necessary for assuming professional leadership.
• DHY 106 (Dental Assisting) This course builds upon previously learned skills and developing competency in advanced skills needed for servicing patients. The dental assisting student is introduced to office management and patient scheduling.
• DHY 113 (Dental Assisting radiography) This application course includes a series of x-ray demonstrations and laboratory practice sessions for dental diagnostic purposes and radiographic charting procedures. Cognitive knowledge includes radiobiological effects and radiation protection.
• DHY 120 (Oral Health)The student learns and implements the basic philosophy and procedures involved in promoting oral health. Various patient situations and preventive techniques are emphasized.
• DHY 256 (Pharmacology)The course is a study of drugs with special emphasis given to those used in the dental office. The student learns the origin of these drugs, their basic physical and chemical properties, methods of administration, and effects upon the body systems.

Applicants must be familiar and flexible with a variety of instructional strategies including an ability to utilize technology-based instruction in the classroom and have an understanding of the community college philosophy.

Communication and leadership skills are needed to effectively work in this position with both faculty and staff. Candidate must be willing to serve as an integral part of a comprehensive team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Dentist or Licensed Dental Hygienist with a minimum of a bachelor's degree is required, AND a minimum of two years clinical experience is also required.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Master's degree preferred with a strong commitment to education, service and professional growth in Dental Education.

Physical Demands:

Standing for extended periods of time.
