Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Dental Clinic Site Manager, the Dental Assistant in Training will function as a circulating assistant during chairside dental procedures. On-the-job training will be provided by current RDA(s)/RDAEFII(s) and precepted by the Dental Director/Dentists. The Dental Assistant in Training will learn dentistry procedures, clinic infection control, instrument sterilization, tray setup, and material handling. Travel between Rolling Hills Clinic locations may be required as needed.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Perform four-handed dental assisting duties for various procedures, including endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics, and restorative care.
Assist with radiographic operations: expose, process, and upload diagnostic radiographs.
Demonstrate familiarity with dental terminology, materials, medications, and operative instruments.
Support patient flow by cleaning and sterilizing instruments, setting up trays, restocking supplies, performing equipment maintenance and testing, pouring models, and handling other lab procedures.
Instruct patients in oral hygiene and preventive dental education under dentist supervision.
Maintain inventory of supplies; reorder as needed to sustain par levels.
Document exam findings in patient records.
Ensure operatories and laboratories are clean, orderly, and well stocked.
Plan work effectively to promote dental clinic efficiency.
Understand patient scheduling procedures.
Collaborate with dental staff to develop and implement community preventive dental activities.
Adhere to all safety protocols, including ergonomic standards and corrective action for health and safety issues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Eight (8) hours infection control course certificate approval by the Dental Board of California.
Completion of an approved radiation safety course within one (1) year of starting the training program.
Licenses/Certificates
Valid CPR Certification
Valid California Drivers License
Pre-Employment Requirements
Pre-employment drug testing.
Department of Justice fingerprint clearance through Federal, State, and Child Abuse Index.
Working Environment & Physical Demands
Working Environment: Work is performed in a health clinic setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Will work with blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Position may require exertion up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Pre-employment Drug Testing and a Department of Justice Fingerprinting clearance through Federal, State and Child Abuse Index is a contingency for an offer of employment. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services at Rolling Hills Clinic.
Vaccination Requirements:
Provide vaccination records to show proof of immunity for TB, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP & Hep B. If the records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.
