LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2 in our Baton Rouge location.

Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training required.

Job Duties and Other Information

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist dentist and dental students with chair side treatment of patients
  • Maintain and stock cabinet
  • Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
  • Chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium/WinOMS Computer knowledge)
  • Give follow-up home instructions as directed by the surgeon, resident, or student
  • Implement and maintain infection control in the work area.
  • Check inventory and order supplies when needed.
  • Implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth by LSUHSC School of

Dentistry and OSHA.

  • Know dental and surgical terminology.
  • know correct nomenclature of all dental instruments
  • Knowledgeable of computers.

Appointment Type: Classified Appointment

Career Progression: This position is part of the career progression group may be filled as a Dental Assistant 1 or 2.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00 AM-4:00 PM

Compensation:

There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of

  • $15.05 per hour for Dental Assistant 2 title
  • $14.06 for Dental Assistant 1 title

Additional compensation

  • $1.00 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
  • $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.
  • $1.50 for EDDA certification (Expanded Dental Duty Dental Assistant).
