    Description

Amazon"s technology supply chain supports a complex and rapidly evolving portfolio of infrastructure, end-user equipment, and technology products across thousands of locations globally. As the business scales, accurate and forward-looking demand planning is critical to ensuring supply availability, managing inventory investment, and delivering predictable outcomes for customers.

We are seeking a Manager, Demand Planning to lead the demand planning capability within Supply Chain Planning. This leader will manage a team responsible for developing and continuously improving demand plans across the existing customer business segments, while establishing scalable mechanisms that can support new businesses, products, and fulfillment models.

The successful candidate will build a demand planning organization that combines strong planning fundamentals with data, technology, and automation. This includes improving forecast quality, integrating customer and business signals, identifying structural sources of forecast error, and partnering with Product, Data, Analytics, and Technology teams to reduce manual planning activity and enable increasingly intelligent forecasting capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines strong supply chain expertise, analytical depth, customer orientation, business judgment, and people leadership. They must be comfortable challenging assumptions, navigating incomplete or conflicting signals, and influencing stakeholders across Supply Chain, Finance, Technology, Operations, Procurement, and customer organizations.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for demand planning across Launch, KTLO, and Programs.
    • Own the end-to-end demand planning mechanism, including forecast creation, validation, consensus, performance measurement, and continuous improvement.
    • Translate customer, business, historical, operational, and market signals into credible forward-looking demand plans at the appropriate product, geographic, and time horizons.
    • Establish clear accountability for demand inputs and challenge assumptions, overrides, and changes that are not supported by measurable business signals.
    • Define and improve forecast accuracy, bias, forecast value-add, and other metrics that distinguish true demand variability from process, data, and system defects.
    • Partner with Supply Planning and Enterprise S&OP to surface demand uncertainty, quantify risks, and support scenario and trade-off decisions.
    • Develop segmented planning approaches appropriate for different demand patterns, including launches, steady-state replenishment, and program-driven demand.
    • Partner with Product, Data, Analytics, and Technology teams to automate forecast ingestion, validation, anomaly detection, and planner workflows.
    • Advance the use of statistical forecasting, machine learning, and AI to improve forecast quality and reduce dependence on manual reconciliation and judgment.
    • Simplify fragmented demand signals and processes, with a long-term goal of connecting Planning more directly to customer and business demand signals.
    • Build scalable mechanisms that support new products, businesses, regions, and planning paradigms without creating parallel planning processes.
    • Communicate demand outlook, uncertainty, structural risks, and recommended actions clearly to senior stakeholders.

    A day in the life

In this role, you may begin the day reviewing forecast performance and emerging demand changes with your team, determining whether movement reflects a true change in customer demand or a defect in the underlying signal.

You may work with customer teams to challenge assumptions behind a forecast, partner with Supply Planning to understand the implications of a significant demand shift, or support Enterprise S&OP with scenarios where demand uncertainty requires a broader business decision.

You may also spend time with Product or Technology teams improving how demand signals are ingested, automating a repetitive planner workflow, or defining how machine learning and AI can augment planner judgment.

The role balances near-term planning performance with the longer-term objective of creating a scalable, technology-enabled demand planning capability where planners spend less time collecting and reconciling information and more time understanding customers, evaluating uncertainty, and improving the quality of the plan.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
