About the Role

Point Quest Education is seeking a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with hearing needs in a school-based setting in Hayward, CA.

The DHH Teacher will deliver targeted instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), support communication development, and collaborate with school staff, families, and related service providers to help students reach their academic and functional goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialized Instruction: Deliver targeted instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals and objectives.
  • Classroom & Behavior Management: Utilize effective classroom and behavior management strategies to create a safe, supportive, and functional learning environment.
  • Student Evaluation & Reporting: Monitor student academic and social development, maintain accurate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with families regarding student progress.
  • Instructional Approaches: Utilize total communication and/or auditory-oral approaches based on individual student needs and IEP requirements.
  • Communication: Provide instruction using American Sign Language (ASL), Signing Exact English (SEE), and other appropriate communication modalities.
  • Assistive Technology: Support the appropriate use of hearing aids, FM systems, cochlear implant processors, and other assistive listening technology in accordance with audiologist recommendations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, families, and school leadership to support student success.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Credential: Valid California credential authorizing instruction in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) settings. Appropriate Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe authorization may also be required depending on the assignment.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is preferred. Knowledge of assistive listening devices and related technology is highly desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Proficiency in ASL, Signing Exact English, and/or other appropriate communication modalities as required by the assignment.
  • Background Check: Department of Justice/FBI background clearance or equivalent fingerprint clearance.
  • TB Clearance: Current TB clearance as required.
  • Eligibility to Work: Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Physical Demands

  • Environment: Occasional exposure to dust, pollen, and fumes.
  • Activity: Frequent reaching, handling, standing, walking, and lifting items up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
