    PART I: SUMMARY OF POSITION

    The Day-to-Day Substitute serves as an on-call educator who supports student learning by stepping into classrooms during the absence of permanent Teachers or Teaching Assistants. The primary objective is to maintain an engaging, productive, and safe learning environment while ensuring the continuity of instruction. Responsibilities vary from leading classroom instruction using provided lesson plans (Teacher assignments) to assisting with student supervision and instructional support (Teaching Assistant assignments).

    PART II: MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum education required to meet ISBE licensure requirements for Substitute or Professional Educator licensure.
    • Experience working with school-aged children preferred.

    B. CREDENTIALS:

    • Valid Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute License (SUB).
    • License must be registered in Lake County Regional Office of Education (Region 34).
    • Successful completion of criminal background check/fingerprinting and evidence of physical fitness for duty.

    C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Instructional Competency: Ability to follow written lesson plans and utilize classroom technology.
    • Communication: Effective oral and written communication skills in English; ability to explain concepts clearly to students.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work with students, staff, and parents in a positive and professional manner.
    • Adaptability: Flexibility to work across various grade levels, subject areas, and school buildings.
    • Classroom Management: Strong skills in maintaining order and enforcing school rules.

    • Instructional Delivery: Provide classroom instruction and supervision in accordance with provided lesson plans and district guidelines.
    • Classroom Environment: Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment conducive to learning.
    • Behavior Management: Monitor student behavior, enforce school rules, and follow established disciplinary procedures.
    • Supervision: Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, or other assigned duties as requested by administration.
    • Administrative Duties: Take accurate attendance and complete required end-of-day documentation or reporting.
    • Safety & Technology: Utilize instructional technology and follow all district safety and emergency protocols.
    • Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district policies, punctuality standards, and check-in/out procedures.

    PART IV: SUPERVISION

    This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over other district employees but is responsible for the direct supervision and safety of students in the classroom and school environment.

    PART V: EMPLOYMENT STATUS (AT-WILL)

    Employment as a Day-to-Day Substitute with Round Lake Area Schools District 116 is on an "at-will" basis. This means that either the District or the employee may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice. Substitute employment is on-call and does not guarantee a minimum number of days or hours, nor does it establish a contract for continued employment.
