Position Overview

An established clinical laboratory in Providence, RI is seeking an experienced and dedicated Microbiology Supervisor to lead its day-shift operations. This is a full-time, permanent position offering professional growth, stability, and a collaborative environment focused on quality patient care.

The Microbiology Supervisor will oversee daily operations in the microbiology department, ensure regulatory compliance, manage staff scheduling and training, and work closely with physicians and lab leadership to maintain the highest standards in testing accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily microbiology laboratory operations.

• Oversee and participate in culture identification, susceptibility testing, and quality assurance activities.

• Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.

• Maintain and monitor quality control and proficiency testing programs.

• Train, mentor, and evaluate microbiology technologists and technicians.

• Collaborate with laboratory leadership on policy updates, new procedures, and workflow improvements.

• Support infection control initiatives and serve as a microbiology subject matter expert for clinical staff.

Qualifications

• Certification: Current ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or related field.

• Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of microbiology experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role preferred.

• Skills: Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills with a focus on quality and accuracy.
