The Datacenter Administrator / Assistant Director is responsible for the administration, security, and optimization of datacenter and core network infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on networking and virtualization. In addition to hands-on technical responsibilities, this position provides leadership support within IT Services by coordinating small to medium IT projects, maintaining system documentation, and supervising staff in the absence of the Director of IT Services. The role requires the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with IT team members and leadership to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient operations. The Datacenter Administrator / Assistant Director plays a key role in infrastructure planning, system upgrades, performance tuning, and risk mitigation, while staying current with emerging technologies and cybersecurity trends.
Datacenter Systems Administration
- Administer, monitor, and support datacenter systems with an emphasis on Cisco and Fortinet network solutions.
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of virtualization platforms and configurations.
- Review device alerts, investigate problems, and optimize performance.
- Apply networking best practices and configurations to datacenter and core network systems.

Project Management
- Lead and coordinate small to medium cybersecurity and IT initiatives from planning through implementation.
- Assist with defining project goals, scope, timelines, and deliverables.
- Track progress, identify potential risks, and support timely project completion.
- Maintain project documentation and communicate status updates to the Director of IT Services.

IT Systems & Network Support
- Troubleshoot intermediate to advanced IT systems, equipment, and devices.
- Support datacenter and core network system upgrades, patching, and configuration changes with attention to security and stability.
- Work collaboratively with IT Services staff on infrastructure and security-related tasks.

Professional Expectations
- Work efficiently with minimal supervision while maintaining effective communication with colleagues.
- Supervise IT Services employees when the Director is unavailable.
- Maintain accurate documentation for systems, configurations, procedures, and security practices.
- Stay current with cybersecurity trends and technology updates.
- Provide technical input and recommendations to IT Services staff and leadership as requested.
