Database Engineer

This individual will lead database administration efforts, oversee high availability and disaster recovery strategies, troubleshoot complex performance issues, and drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and system reliability. • Experience with Azure services including Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for MySQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics preferred.

ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced IT Database Engineer to design, implement, support, and optimize enterprise database environments across both traditional data center and Microsoft Azure platforms. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the performance, availability, security, and reliability of mission critical database systems supporting business operations.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise across Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL environments while working closely with infrastructure, development, and security teams. This individual will lead database administration efforts, oversee high availability and disaster recovery strategies, troubleshoot complex performance issues, and drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and system reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL environments across data center and Azure platforms

• Monitor database performance, capacity, and health while developing proactive alerting, dashboards, and operational reporting

• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, failed jobs, connectivity issues, blocking events, and database incidents while conducting root cause analysis

• Design, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity

• Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, configuration improvements, and capacity planning

• Implement database security controls including authentication, authorization, encryption, auditing, and compliance related safeguards

• Collaborate with application and development teams to support database design, schema changes, deployments, and performance optimization

• Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting and cloud automation tools while maintaining documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• 5 plus years of experience supporting production Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL environments as a Database Engineer or DBA

• Hands on experience administering databases across both traditional data center infrastructure and Microsoft Azure environments

• Strong expertise with database performance tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, transaction management, and query optimization

• Proven experience designing and supporting high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and recovery solutions for enterprise databases

• Experience with SQL Server Always On, replication technologies, clustering, log shipping, and database failover methodologies

• Proficiency with automation and scripting technologies including T SQL, PowerShell, Bash, Python, Azure CLI, or similar tools

• Experience with Azure services including Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for MySQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics preferred

• Knowledge of database security best practices, compliance requirements, and data protection controls

• Strong understanding of networking, virtualization, storage, and infrastructure concepts that impact database performance and availability

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem solving skills with the ability to perform effectively in on call and high urgency situations
