About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned and detail-oriented professional to join our client's team in the tech sector. In this role, you will contribute to maintaining database systems to ensure their performance, security, and reliability. You will coordinate changes to computer databases, implement security measures, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure database requirements are met and maintained.
Responsibilities
- Provide 24x7 production support for databases across on-premises and cloud (Azure, GCP) environments via rotational shifts and on-call duties.
- Administer, monitor, and maintain databases in production and non-production environments.
- Implement and manage backup, recovery, tuning, HA, and DR (Disaster Recovery) strategies.
- Perform routine health checks, proactively identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize queries and database configurations.
- Manage database security, user permissions, and compliance with organizational policies.
- Coordinate and execute database patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to support deployment activities and resolve database-related issues.
- Monitor and resolve incidents, including root cause analysis and documentation of resolutions.
- Automate routine operational tasks using scripts or management tools.
- Document database procedures, configurations, and support processes for internal knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 6 years of hands-on experience as a DBA managing multiple database technologies, including Oracle (must), PgSQL, and SQL Server.
- Strong SQL scripting and database troubleshooting skills.
- In-depth knowledge of backup/recovery, high availability (Clustering, AlwaysOn, DataGuard, etc.), and performance tuning for both platforms.
- Experience with database monitoring tools like Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, and Nagios, and automation frameworks such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Solid understanding of database security best practices.
- Proven experience with patching, upgrading, and migrating databases.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operations setting.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional, or equivalent.
- Exposure to cloud-based database services (Azure, GCP, etc.).
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Shell scripting, Python).
