    Description

    Database Administrator - Cockroach DB

    Location: Bay Area, CA

    Experience Required

    • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator.
    • At least 2 years of hands-on experience administering CockroachDB in production environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain CockroachDB clusters in production environments.
    • Manage and support distributed database architectures with a focus on replication, scalability, and high availability.
    • Perform query optimization, database performance tuning, and capacity planning.
    • Design, implement, and manage backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery solutions.
    • Monitor database health, performance, and availability, ensuring optimal operation of critical production systems.
    • Implement and maintain database security, user management, and access control policies.
    • Troubleshoot complex database issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive resolution.
    • Support high-volume, mission-critical production database environments.
    • Participate in and independently handle on-call support responsibilities.
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash or Python if required.

    Required Skills

    • Strong knowledge of distributed database architecture, replication, and high-availability concepts.
    • Expert-level experience with CockroachDB administration and cluster management.
    • Expertise in query optimization, database performance tuning, and capacity planning.
    • Strong experience in backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and database monitoring.
    • Good understanding of database security, user management, and access controls.
    • Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience with shell scripting (Bash) or Python for database automation.
    • Experience working in large-scale, high-volume production environments.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
