Job Summary
The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, tuning, and optimizing enterprise database environments to meet current and future application requirements.
The role will focus primarily on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance, including database installations, upgrades, migrations, security, performance optimization, high availability, backup and recovery, and troubleshooting. The DBA will work closely with application, infrastructure, network, and other IT teams to ensure reliable and secure database operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, configure, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance databases.
- Perform SQL Server and database installations, upgrades, migrations, and configuration changes.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on regular database and operating-system patching.
- Troubleshoot and remediate complex database-related issues.
- Ensure database security, access controls, compliance, and best practices.
- Perform SQL query tuning and database performance optimization.
- Design and implement database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Implement and maintain high-availability solutions, including SQL Server Always On.
- Collaborate with application development teams to support database requirements.
- Define data process flows, data models, migrations, and database architecture.
- Develop and maintain database standards, procedures, best practices, and technical documentation.
- Design and implement database automation using scripting and programming languages.
- Participate in the evaluation of new database technologies and provide recommendations for future implementations.
- Support database infrastructure across Windows, Linux, and UNIX environments.
- Coordinate database infrastructure requirements with system administrators, network administrators, help desk teams, developers, and other technical resources.
- Develop backup schedules, perform recovery verification testing, and maintain associated documentation.
- Ensure database-related documentation and asset records are maintained accurately and consistently.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to junior database administrators and technical staff.
- Design, engineer, and document enterprise database solutions and standards.
- Participate in planning and coordination of database installations, maintenance, upgrades, and support activities.
Critical Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server Database Administration experience.
- Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Knowledge of Azure Storage Accounts and Azure security fundamentals.
- Expert-level understanding of Windows Server and SQL Server environments.
- Experience implementing and supporting SQL Server Always On / High Availability.
- Strong SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with database backup and recovery.
- Strong logical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of Python is preferred.
- Experience with database automation and scripting.
- Microsoft technology certifications are preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 12+ years of overall database, systems administration, programming, or related IT experience preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of experience installing, maintaining, administering, and supporting database products and related operating-system environments.
- Experience working with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database technologies.
- Experience supporting Windows, Linux, and UNIX environments.
- Advanced knowledge of database administration, operating systems, computer hardware, and storage technologies as they relate to database performance and availability.
- Advanced knowledge of scripting and automation techniques for database administration.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues remotely and onsite.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, diagrams, manuals, and system specifications.
